A ‘masterpiece’ in stupidity

AFTER parsing Mr. Maxwell’s SN, Thursday July 14 letter, I could not rest well. The ‘piece’ is a ‘masterpiece’ in stupidity. Maxwell comes over as very simplistic, and he seems oblivious to  basic observations and what these portend. I take this moment to examine and debunk his ‘attempted points.’

When Maxwell disagrees with Mr. Adams’ intimation that the “PPP’s extra 11.6% of the total vote came from non-Indians (and that this is an) example of tomfoolery masquerading as truth,” I think that he, Maxwell is way off. What he is doing is simply practising dilettantish analysis. For one, many critics are just too conveniently bi-furcated. They use racial arguments to support the PPP/C’s well entrenched position. But when this does not suit them, and it debunks them, they quickly change.

Now since, according to the many Maxwells, the PPP/C has already raked in the Indian voters, then any increase, namely the 11.6, must be from other groupings, chiefly the Afro or Amerindian. So it is not ‘tomfoolery.’ In any kind of survey, one has to look for trends. For example, one can see how the once many PNCR strongholds are dwindling numerically, and conversely, how the PPP/C’s constituencies are increasing in those said areas.

Now, the letter itself is bereft of any acceptable writing standard. It is overloaded and confusing, and all it seeks to do is to argue on the basis of race. So I need not grant more dignity to it. However, it becomes incumbent upon me, to address an accusation of Maxwell. Maxwell claims that “… the PPP’s approach to the Amerindian is not out of a genuine concern of the Amerindian people and their plight as the most marginalised ethnic group in this country. (But that it) is a genuine attempt to buy the Amerindian vote using their (Amerindian) and other taxpayers’ money.

First, again the sentence is a ‘saturation of clumsiness. ‘I garner, that the point Maxwell is trying to make is that the PPP/C is playing politics, seeking to win Amerindian votes, and doing so, by using taxpayers’ money. Well there is no need to fear. According to this ‘Maxwellian’ thinking, all the opposers and enemies of the PPP/C should be happy. Here is why.

First, it means that the PPP/C is simply being stupid. It is like ‘fattening calves for another butcher.’ So, the Maxwells must be ecstatic. Secondly, irrespective of the motive, the Amerindian people are getting a deserved ‘piece of their pie.’ It is about time they got what they have a right to. However, my feeling is that since the PNC simply ran roughshod over them (and other peoples too) for over 28 years, the likes of Maxwell are realising that for the PNC, it represents a lost opportunity. Also, by the PPP/C’s injection of national/equitable and caring governance, the PNCR/APNU is heading quite rapidly into moribundity.

Finally, Maxwell’s appeal to reason and sentimentality in his final paragraph is filled with duplicity. He ‘throws’ into the mix a slight censuring of the PNC, but it does not suffice. Until that final paragraph, all that one gets is nothing but biased venom against the PPP/C.
