$200,000 bail for forgery

AKIM Jordan of 388 Melony, East Coast Demerara, was yesterday placed on $200,000 bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on two charges of forgery.
Jordan pleaded not guilty to both charges. One of the charges was obtaining money upon a forged instrument on February 11, 2011. With intent to defraud he obtained $475,000 from the Bank of Guyana via a cheque purporting to show that same was issued by The Guyana Islamic Forum Education, Peace and Religion Solidarity property of the said Guyana Islamic Forum Education, Peace and Religion Solidarity.
The other charge was conspiracy to commit a felony, and particulars of the case stated that Jordan between January 3 and February 11, 2011, at Georgetown with intent to defraud conspired with person or persons unknown to forge a Bank of Guyana cheque in favour of himself, purporting to show that same was issued by Bank of Guyana knowing same to be false.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey had no objection to bail since Jordan assisted the police with investigations.
Jordan was placed on $100,000 bail for each charge and the matter was transferred to court five before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton.
Jordan will return to court on August 3 for statements.
