Panday’s mother-in-law mastermind behind foiled heist at Bel Air Gardens

…. Malcolm Panday alleges
FOLLOWING thorough investigations into the multi-million dollar robbery at Bel Air Gardens on Tuesday, police have arrested the suspected masterminds behind the foiled heist.
Malcolm Panday, owner of Avinash and Avishkar stores in the city, in a telephone interview with the Guyana Chronicle, stated that after long hours of questioning, the bandits have allegedly revealed that the instigator behind the robbery was none other than his mother-in-law.

A release sent out by the family alleges that Chandrada Rampersaud, Annie Ramsood’s mother; Reena Rampersaud, her cousin; Navindra Harrichan, boyfriend of Reena Rampersaud; and Hardat Puran, the woman’s first cousin, were the ones who supplied the inside information to the bandits.

The robbers said that Chandrada told them specifically that her daughter would be home at that special time, and she would be able to give them the money without hesitation, since the other people in the house would not know where the money was exactly, the release from the Pandays alleges.

When questioned about any unusual behaviour by the family, Annie pointed out that her mother had called her half hour before the robbery took place talking about an unusual matter.

Annie said she is torn apart to know that her own mother would deceive her in such a way and that her cousins would play a part in the act.

According to reports, Annie’s mother and her sister worked for the family for years, and on many occasions they stole and were forgiven by the Pandays.

The family said that it is not always that they keep monies in bulk at their home; but the money stolen on Tuesday was stored to make a payment, and only family members knew about that.
Chandrada Rampersaud of Pigeon Island, mother of Annie Ramsood, was arrested for giving out information, and planning the robbery with her nephew, Hardat Puran, her niece, Reena Rampersaud, and her niece’s boyfriend, Navindra Harrichan, all of Owen Street, Kitty.

Following the incident on Tuesday, six men, including four of Annie Ramsood’s relatives, are currently in police custody.
