ROBERT Lespoir of Harry Avenue, Friendship, East Bank Demerara on July 3 last, in a fit of rage damaged a $13,000 washing machine belonging to his wife, Linda Lespoir.
The woman reported to the police that he cut the plug from machine and used abusive language to her much to her annoyance. Lespoir was arrested and charged.

When he made an appearance before, Magistrate Leslie Sobers at the Providence Magistrate’s Court to answer charges of damage to property and abusive language, the man explained that he when he went home the said day at about 17:00 hrs, he found that his wife had not washed his clothes so he damaged the equipment which he had given her as a gift. He also admitted to abusing his wife.
But Magistrate Sobers in rebuking Lespoir told him that since he had given the washing machine as a present to his wife, it is no longer his but hers.
The wife, meanwhile, told the magistrate that her wish was not for her husband to be sent to jail but,   that the court gives him a warning.
He was subsequently warned and discharged but not before the Magistrate ordered that he pay a court cost of $10,000.
