Persaud is CARICOM Day 50-mile road race champ

ROBIN Persaud pedalled to victory in a time of 1:45:43s to claim the CARICOM Day 50-mile Cycle road race which was staged from Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo to the Demerara Harbour Bridge where it concluded, yesterday. The race which commenced at 09:00 hrs was organised by National Cycling Coach Hassan Mohammed MS and sponsored by Dr. Chase Jorgens, Seven Seas and Nature Valley Products. The event had Persaud winning the senior category and topping as the overall winner.

Coming in second in the senior category was Andrew Reece, third was Raymond Newton of Linden,  Enzo Matthew grabbed fourth while Albert Philander and Alanzo Greaves occupied the final two top spots, respectively.

In the Veteran category, Shameer Baksh was the top finisher while Kennard and Bochel Samaroo came second and third. Paul DeNobrega claimed the Upright Cyclist top spot ahead of Raynos Jeffery and Cort LaRose.

Upright cycling category’s Jude Bentley finished first ahead of Richard Charles and Kester Croal who finished second and third while Naomi Singh was the first female rider and Walter Isaacs was the top Over-60 contender.
