THE One Laptop Per Family Project(OLPFP) continues its forward momentum with the re-launch today of the tender for the supply of laptops to be distributed to the first batch of eligible Guyanese. This tender was formulated following a series of high-level, intensive consultations with a wide range of Information and Communication Technology suppliers and industry experts from across the country.
The open, consultative approach being taken is in keeping with the Government’s commitment to making the OLPFP a distinctively national programme that consolidates the people’s participation in the promulgation of Guyana’s ICT Agenda, which is a critical pillar driving the building of a more prosperous Guyana.
The approach in this instance is not dissimilar to that of other major social interventions undertaken over the years that have solidified the track record of the PPP/Civic administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, through genuine broad-based consultation.
Retendering for the laptops was imperative, as none of the bids submitted in the first round of tendering was fully compliant with the tender requirements, thus annulling that tender.
The Government of Guyana stands firm in its resolve of ensuring prudence in public expenditure, while safeguarding the trust and deservedly high expectations of its peoples.
The new tender notice will be posted over the weekend at www.eprocure.gov.gy and in the press while copies could be requested from the OLPFP Central Office at info@olpf.gov.gy or at 161 Lamaha Street, North Cummingsburg, Georgetown.
