9-yr-old Jasmattie buried

Nine-year-old Jasmattie Ramnauth, called Chevonnie, of D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice, killed in an accident at Cotton Tree, West Berbice, one week ago, when a speeding motor crashed into her and her 7-year- old brother Vayjai, was buried Monday.
She was buried at the Cotton Tree Cemetery, West Berbice. Her grandmother who spoke with this newspaper late Monday, after returning home from the funeral, related that it was a distressing burial.

“It was really sad,” the woman recounted, adding, “The funeral was big, everybody come; de school children them and all, and they say poem fuh she.”

Family members were inconsolable ‘Grannie’ recalled, and the child’s only surviving sister, Nirvannie, weeping bitterly, incessantly begged the dead girl to open her eyes.

Nine-year-old Jasmattie and her seven-year-old brother Vayjai were struck down by a speeding motor car around 07:55hrs on June 22, while on their way to school.

On impact, Vayjai was flung several feet away from the motor car, and Jasmattie, who was trapped under the wheels, had her head crushed and leg severed.
Vayjai suffered life threatening injuries – a huge puncture at the back of his head, a fractured left leg and injuries to the chest and abdomen.  He is currently warded at the Pediatric Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital, and continues to cry out for pains.

As the day of the funeral drew closer, the child begged his parents to take him home so he would be able to see his sister for the last time. But the doctors advised against this.
