… as six lives are lost at the weekend
This past weekend, six persons lost their lives on the nation’s roads, some of them because of speeding and drunk driving.
This has moved the Police Traffic Department to speak out against a new trend that sees persons, many of unsound mind, begging from motorists at traffic lights.
The Traffic Department said that the beggars, vagrants and persons of unsound minds venture out into the middle of the road at traffic lights crossings, and even in front of vehicles, to solicit money from motorists.
And needless to say this poses a danger to both the beggars and the motorists who are distracted by the persons soliciting alms.
Traffic statistics reveal that 55 persons have lost their lives from 53 road accidents for this year, while for the corresponding period last year, 50 lives were lost in 49 road accidents.
The Traffic Department continues to urge all motorists and other road users to adhere to all traffic regulations and desist from speeding, drinking and driving, which are the leading contributors of road accidents and fatalities.
