THE Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) wishes to inform the public that Al Israa wal Mi’raaj will be observed on the evening of Wednesday June 29th 2011.
Al Israa and Mi’raaj is perhaps one of the greatest events to have taken place in the annals of history, according to a statement from the CIOG. It concerns Prophet Muhammad’s intimate conversation with his Lord (Allah), his vision, his being the leader of all the Prophets of God and his ascent into the heavens, where he saw the greatest signs of his Lord during this journey.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was taken from Makkah to Jerusalem from where he ascended to the Heavens.
This event represents the very essence of what faith is to Muslims, belief in the unseen. And that belief remains a distinguishing mark between faith and doubt. CIOG said this incident is considered the link between the finite and the infinite world.
The main objective of this journey is to emphasize the importance of Masjid ul Aqsa and its precincts and these places are considered sacred in Islam; The link among all the Prophets of God and the unity of their message, confirmation about life in the hereafter, the Holy Prophet was shown heaven and hell on this journey and therefore believers should be motivated by this information and seek to attain the ultimate goal of Paradise by doing good in this life.
Finally, the main lesson of this incident is the five daily prayers which God commanded and which must be observed by everyone. Prayers help us to promote virtues and prevent vices and fulfill the purpose of creation. It allows the creation to communicate with the creator and this is necessary for their development and success in both worlds.
CIOG is reminding the Guyanese community to use this occasion to reflect on the need for moral reformation, respect for the rule of law and respect for fellow citizens regardless of race or religion, only then can we as a nation progress.
