IN the latest formation on the coalition of parties to contest the next general elections, I find a very confused state of affairs in the opposition camp.
First, it was JOPP which, within days, metamorphosed into APNU. It is a menagerie of depraved souls who, by their association, hope to bamboozle the electorate into believing that they are for the people of this great country, hence vote them into power.
PNCR’s David Granger is the presidential candidate of the coalition true to the “Black supremacy” dogma of that party, but to my surprise and great bewilderment is the prime ministerial choice of Rupert Roopnarine. I am appalled! Yes, stunned! To say the least that Rupert Roopnarine could stoop so low as to be in partnership with a David Granger? But as the saying goes, politics makes strange bedfellows and herein lies the classic fulfilment of this old adage. In his lust for power, Roopnarine has done the unthinkable thing, that is, throw all the hard work the WPA and the people of Guyana have done to get the PNC out of power. And for that lack of respect for the blood, sweat and tears for the people of Guyana that grouping is doomed to failure right from the very start.
Roopnarine has so easily forgotten the valiant struggle waged by his party and the people to rid ourselves of the PNC bullies; the sleepless nights, the beatings, the imprisonment and not forgetting the ultimate price paid by his compatriot Dr. Walter Rodney. I believe Brother Walter would be turning in his grave to see the sorry state of a human being Rupert has become. But I should have seen this coming long before now, judging from the statements made by this actor some months ago that his party was stockpiling weapons for a violent overthrow of the PNC regime. Dr. Roopnarine could have had the audacity, let me say the assininity after 30-odd years to make that statement.
What took him so long to expose those hideous facts of his party? Are we so stupid? Come on Rupert, you can do better than that! But one thing stands out here, that is, a man dolling up to the PNCR being obsessed with power.
Selling one’s soul to the devil will have dire consequences for the coalition. Come Election Day, the people of Guyana who are not confused will speak again.
