I wish to comment on a case involving Jerald James and the accused Tessa Robinson. The plaintiff Jerald James is known to me personally being my close friend of many years. He relates the story of the accused and another gentleman boarding his taxi requesting that they be taken to a location somewhere in Blygezight. What began as a normal taxi ride soon turned out to be a nightmare for my buddy, because on arrival at the place the female passenger drew a gun and pointed it to Jerry’s head stating that “this is a stick up yeh.” My friend not wishing to aggravate an already precarious situation had no option but to quietly exit his vehicle and at the opportune moment run for his life. Luckily for Jerry the female passenger Tessa Robinson is known to him and he was able to lead the police to her abode where the stolen items were recovered.
This person Tessa Robinson is a known character who has been in other matters of a similar nature and from all appearances was able to evade the law for all this time.
Now here’s my point: Jerry and the lawmen were able to recover the stolen items minus the firearm. Where is the gun? And this is my main worry as these felons are able to ply their nefarious activities because our courts seem not to treat these matters with the seriousness they deserve and the offenders keep beating the system time and time again.
Persons accused of gun crimes should be put away for very lengthy jail sentences. When I say this I mean enough time that they are rendered either too old or incapacitated to commit another felonious act. The fact that the firearm was not recovered makes her case even more troubling, because if she is given a short sentence she would soon be out ready to resume her criminal activities with that firearm that is secretly hidden somewhere out there. Quite frankly in my book one found guilty of a gun crime should be given a life sentence; it is the only way we would be able to bring this madness under control. Pointing a gun at a person’s head is not a game; this is attempted murder and the charges should reflect this.
For us to bring gun crimes to a screeching halt our judges and magistrates need to treat these matters in a more serious and realistic manner; if the laws do not reflect lengthy sentencing then change the laws! If judges are worried about space for the housing of criminals then build more jails! Taxpayers would not mind a larger slice of their money being spent on such a gallant effort; it would represent the separation of those who are bent on creating havoc in society from those who are decent and law abiding.
