Why so many drug busts now?

IF we were to go on the theory of the PNCR and its followers, the capture and incarceration of the drug kingpin Roger Khan should have marked the end of drug-trafficking in Guyana. In fact, during the trial of Khan one could have heard them say the PPP government would be indicted for the crimes of drug-trafficking having facilitated Khan in this regard. Their scheme read, no Khan, no PPP, end of drug-trafficking. In fact, they were so sure of themselves that a victory rally was planned well in advance of the conclusion of the trial wherein the PNCR would have been put back into office and would have taken over the reins of power in Guyana. To date, none of the above has ever taken place and so the story continues to unfold.
It was the mistaken belief of the PNCR who thought everyone would have bought into that story of the government being linked to drug trafficking hook line and sinker, but the ongoing series of drug busts both local and overseas have put a big dent into their plan. The present gains and successes came about after a series of serious pitfalls the government endured at the hands of persons whom they entrusted to curb the lawlessness. Persons of the likes of former Police Commissioner Winston Felix and army point man David Clark. The two individuals mentioned formed a cadre of dishonourable persons who instead of doing their jobs became part and parcel of the problem. Felix did not lift a finger to stop the trafficking of drugs or other serious crimes because of his connections to Khan. The same could be said of Clark who when sent into Buxton to ferret out the drug gangs there himself became a beneficiary. All of this took place while many of their comrades-in-arms were dying at the hands of brazen bandits. Drug busts, far less the capture and prosecution of bandits were unheard of, It was a time of ominous foreboding.

The opposition not to be left out of it added to the fray as a pack of sympathetic judases, pretending to feel sorry for the government, and who were always willing to give advice as to the way out of the problem. How comforting these jokers are! Today, thanks to the smart and timely move by the PPP/C administration in removing Felix and replacing him with Henry Greene, respectability is slowly getting back into law enforcement. Ever wonder why the criminal community and the opposition PNC hate Henry Greene’s guts. Think about it!
