Mahdia shop owner attempted murder over garbage dumping
FRANCIS Dublin, 58, of 111 Miles Potaro, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged with attempted murder.
Particulars of the indictable offence said, last May 6, at Mahdia, also in the Potaro, he wounded Wayne Skeete with intent to kill him.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunte, prosecuting, said that the virtual complainant and the accused are known to each other and they both have shops in the same area.
The prosecutor said, one morning, Skeete awoke and saw a bag of garbage in front of his premises and ventured to ask Dublin why it was there.
In reply, Dublin said he would pay someone $1,000 to remove it but he continued to dump and that led to an argument between the two. Skeete threw the bag of waste on Dublin and dealt him a punch and the latter, in retaliation, stabbed Skeete, the prosecutor related.
He said Skeete suffered a life threatening wound to his lower abdomen and the magistrate set bail at $400,000 before transferring the case to Mahdia Court for July 20.
