IT WAS a complete shutout on the second day of action in the inaugural Digicel-sponsored nationwide Inter-secondary school Under-19 tournament Thursday afternoon, with Alvin Benjamin recording five goals for Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI), while Charlestown Secondary swamped Nehemiah Comprehensive 12-0.
Benjamin found the back of the net in the 13th, 14th, 18th, 24th and 40th minutes respectively and along with Lennox Clay’s double in the 4th and 22nd minutes and strikes from Swayne Fitzpatrick and Henry Moniero, guided ETI to a 9-0 victory over Anna Regina in their Region Two fixture.
Charity Secondary also defeated 8th of May Secondary 4-0 in another Region Two fixture, thanks to Carlos Henry’s brace scored in the 12th and 19th minutes, coupled with Fazal Williams (60th) and Shevon David’s strike three minutes later.
In Region Six, Manchester Secondary defeated Port Mourant Secondary two-nil while Patentia Secondary drubbed Goed Fortuin Secondary 7-0 in their matchup which was played in Region Three, thanks to Ashley Harding’s helmet-trick.
Harding scored in the 25th, 40th, 57th and 60th minutes respectively, while Keon Frank got a double in the 48th and 50th minute and Andre Bernard scored the other goal in the 43rd minute.
Shane Morris also scored a helmet-trick, joining Harding and Ozase Halley of Belladrum Secondary as the lone players to record such in the tournament to date. Charlestown Secondary School showed no mercy to Nehemiah Comprehensive whom they swamped 12-0.
Morris opened the scoring in the seventh minute and added three more goals in the 22nd, 23rd and 32nd minutes and received support from Kevin Clarkson and Alpha McPhoy who scored braces in the 21st and 40th, 28th and 54th minutes respectively, while Josiah Charles and Mikhail Gittens got one each in the 44th and 60th minutes as their team advanced to the next round in the Georgetown zone.
In a Region Four encounter, Institute of Private Education and Friendship Secondary played to a two-all draw before the former came out victorious in penalty kicks. (Calvin Roberts)
