Appointment of Honorary Consul to Barbados at appropriate time

– Rodrigues-Birkett
THE Government of Guyana has received applications from several persons who have indicated interest in filling the vacancy of Honorary Consul to Barbados, created by the death of Mr. Norman Faria.
But a suitable applicant has not yet been identified and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, when asked, yesterday, how soon an appointment would be made, said at the appropriate time.

She assured, however, that despite the absence of a diplomatic representative on the island, the Guyana Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been ensuring that the immigration needs of Guyanese living there are being  addressed.
According to  her, systems are in place for an immigration official to visit and remain on the island for a specific period, to address related issues of Guyanese nationals living there.
Faria was born in Barbados and served as Honorary Consul for Guyana from 1994 up to May 25, 2010.
