ONE cannot help but notice the utter hypocrisy and evil intent of the PNCR as it seeks to disrupt the vital role of the ERC in Guyana. This comes as no surprise. In fact, when one scans recent history, the only question that comes to mind is how often, and in what areas will the PNCR practise its political gimmickry and spread its rotten doctrines. First, a possible reason for the current impasse that is so nauseating.
In 2006, Robert Corbin deemed Bishop Edghill as a ‘house slave.’ This acerbated attack and ‘name calling’ was uncalled for. There was only one reason for such a scathing personal attack. It is just that: personal. When one uses the epithet ‘house slaves’ it evokes the days of slavery, when some slaves, in exchange for ‘preferential treatment’ acted as informers, for the slave and colonial masters. The term smacks of perfidiousness and its use by Robert Corbin exposes his true nature. Corbin therein comes over as a disgruntled and failed politician, and thus being angry, he ‘vents his spleen’ on the decent citizenry of Guyana. Thus the intended blockade is simply one of personal vendetta.
The second issue that one is forced to take umbrage with is that of the untimely nature of the challenge to the ERC. Coming right on the heels of the Ogunseye fracas, one would expect that any normal, decent and peaceful citizen would seek to promote unity and racial cohesion in Guyana. However, Robert Corbin conjures up a vile machination in challenging the morality, legality and constitutionality of the ERC. The mere fact that this body, established by all the stakeholders, and for the purpose of bringing a balm to the nation, is so vehemently attacked is testimony to the evil import of the PNCR. It is election season, and usually a season for disruption, so one would expect a reinforcing of the body. This may very well help in quelling even potential ethnic upheavals, as they would be ‘nipped in the bud.’ For example, the potentially dangerous and inflammatory ‘kith and kin’ talk from ACDA. If the PNCR (particularly, Robert Corbin) is interested in a calm and quiet Guyana, for now and always, he will seek to be supportive of the ERC; not thwart it.
