Cocaine trafficker jailed, fined after airport bust

HUBERT Pilgrim (no address given) was sentenced to four years imprisonment, by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, for drug trafficking.
In addition, he was fined $30,000, on conviction for possession of one kilogramme 136 grammes of cocaine for the purpose.

The prisoner pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which said it was committed on June 8 at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said Pilgrim was about to board a flight for Jamaica when he was busted with the illegal substance.
The prosecutor said police saw Pilgrim acting in a suspicious manner and a search of his luggage yielded some of the cocaine and he had swallowed some.
Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson, for the prisoner, said Pilgrim was facing financial difficulties and needed money when someone encouraged him to commit the crime.
The convict, in answer to the court, said he was sorry for what he did. (N. Low-A-Chee)
