Perry takes the 200
-Alder wins four events
HAVING stamped his authority in the 100 metres the previous day, the Guyana Defence Force’s Rupert Perry returned yesterday to take the 200 metres in a time of 21.10 seconds as the curtains came down on the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) organized national Inter-club junior and senior championships at the Police Sports Club (PSC) ground Eve Leary.
Police Sports Club’s (PSC) Winston George ran in second to Perry with a time of 21.40 seconds, while Perry’s teammate Quinse Clarke who was second in the 100 metres the previous day, had to settle for third .40 seconds behind George.
Both Perry and George won their preliminary rounds with a time of 21.80 and 21.40 respectively, while Patrick King who had romped to victory in the 400 metres the previous day, was fourth in the 200 metres final behind Perry, George and Clarke.
PSC’s Natasha Alder was in dominant form, taking the Women’s long jump, triple jump, shot putt and javelin events respectively.
She leaped 5.34metres and 10.80 metres to take the long and triple jump, while she threw the shot putt and javelin 9.12 and 33.16 metres respectively.
Also completing double wins were Tiffany Carto, Jevina Straker, Jenella Jonas and Ashanti Scott in both the women and junior girls category of competitions on a day that was blessed with sunshine in comparison to the previous day.
Like Perry, Carto won the Girl’s Under-18 100 metres the previous day and returned yesterday to take the 200 metres in the same division, clocking 25.90 ahead of her PSC’s teammate Alita Moore (26.70) and Shenne Subbattie from New Amsterdam Track whose time read 30.70.
Ashanti Scott of the GDF proved she is the superior amongst her teammates, Eunice Henry and Doneka Lyle, when she won the Women’s 1,500 and 5,000 metres races in a time of 5:29:10 and 19:57:10 respectively.
Henry clocked 5: 50:60 and 23:41:10 for both races while Lyle’s timings read 5:55:60 and 23:58:60 respectively, as they finished behind their compatriot in both events.
PSC’s Jonas took the Girl’s Under-20 800 and 1,500 metres races with a time of 2:43:90 and 5:33:70 from Tisha Grimes (2:57:50 and %: 44:60) and Alexis Williams (6:07:30) respectively, while Straker won the Girl’s Under-18 800 and 1,500 metres events in a time of 2:25:80 and 5:16:30 respectively.
The Girl’s U-20 5,000 metres was won by Grimes of PSC while Alita Moore took the Under-18 long jump when she leaped 5.17metres, before Marcia Isaacs took the Girl’s Under-20 long jump with a leap of 4.81 metres away from Tracy Moses who leaped 4.63 metres.
PSC’s Dennis Horatio opted out of the Men’s 1,500 metres the previous day, but took the 5,000 metres in commanding fashion, doing so in a time of 16:46:40 seconds ahead of Jamaul Chisholm who clocked 17:41:10 and Winston Missigher of Running Braves who was 15.10 seconds behind Chisholm.
