THE Guyana Sevashram Sangha (Cove & John Ashram) is inviting all devotees of Hindu dharm to a three-day Ramayan Yajna to be held at the organisation’s complex on the East Coast of Demerara beginning Friday. Services commence at 18:00hrs Friday and Saturday, and from 09:00hrs on Sunday.
Sponsors of the Yajna are Jay and Sylvia Sobraj, Nardeo (Naresh) Singh, and Shravan Budhu.
The officiating priest will be Guyanese monk, His Holiness Swami Shiveshwaranandaji Maharaj, who is currently based at the New York branch of the Sangha.
The Ramayana, authored by Sage Valmiki, and subsequently by Tulsidas, is perhaps the most well-known epic in India.
It relates the story of Lord Rama (an incarnation of Vishnu), Prince and later King of Ayodhya, a city in North India.
The central message of the Ramayana is to demonstrate how to lead a virtuous life that does not violate any of the laws of nature.
Lord Rama is considered to be a paragon of virtue, and is believed to be the only human who possessed the 16 great virtues of a ‘Mahapurusha (an enlightened man)’.
The Ramayana is simply a treatise on the ‘Dharmic’ way of living.
It is believed that God and the Divine Mother descended to Earth in human form, and underwent extreme human suffering for two purposes, namely: To save the devout from persecution, and to illustrate to Mankind the need to uphold Dharma in the face of all calamities.
Since we are Their children, God and the Divine Mother incarnated in human form as Rama and Sita to save us from sin.
