GCB/Demerara Under-19 Inter-Sub Association …

WBD continue impressive showing
FOLLOWING their humiliating victory over East Coast Demerara earlier in the week, West Bank Demerara (WBD) maintained their unbeaten record when they defeated East Bank Demerara (EBD) by four wickets in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)-organised Demerara Inter-Sub Association Under-19 tournament at the Police Sports Club ground, yesterday.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first in a match which got under way late due to early morning rain, EBD must have rued making that decision as they were bowled out for 109 from 41.2 overs, with extras top-scoring with 46 that included 28 wides.
John Paton was the lone batsman to reach double figures, hitting two fours in his 15 while he featured in the highest partnership of the innings – 26 for the third wicket with Khemraj Singh who made 5.
Krishna Kumar and Zafar Sookwah took three wickets each for 10 and 22 runs respectively for WBD who reached 110 for 6 from 30.3 overs, after being 30 for 2 at the lunch break when they lost both skipper Chandrika Persaud (11) and Arvin Seepersaud (2) to Jagdesh Bishun who took 3-26.
Shivraj Persaud (2-17) tried to keep EBD in the hunt for a come-from-behind victory, but some lusty hitting from Naveed Ali who made 20 (3×4, 1×6), along with Travis Cato’s unbeaten 27 made off 29 balls with three fours, saw WBD to their second win in as many matches.
Cato added 30 for the seventh wicket with Kumar who was unbeaten with him on 2 when victory was achieved, as WBD join Georgetown who should have been their final opponents of the tournament, at the top of the points table.
Meanwhile, efforts to contact Chairman of the GCB’s Competitions Committee, Carl Moore, to enquire on the possibility of a replay between points leaders Georgetown and East Coast proved futile.
