GUYANA and West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine ‘Tiger’ Chanderpaul struck an unbeaten 72 as his team Tiger Sports XI secured a comfortable win over the young and energetic Kersaint Warriors of LBI in a floodlight game at the National Park, last Wednesday evening. Kersaint Warriors, after winning the toss in the 20/20 tapeball encounter, batted first and rattled up 175 in their allotted 20 overs with contributions of 30 from G. Singh, 22 from M. Singh and 17 from Javin Campbell.
The pick of the bowlers for Tiger Sports XI was Drubahadur who was awarded Man-of-the-Match for his 4 for 28 from three overs, while other good performances with the ball came from Pradeep Abdul and Patrick Khan.
Tigers XI got off to a steady start with an opening partnership of 70 from their skipper Shyam Nokta and former national opening batsman Vishal Arjoon, with contributions of 23 and 24 respectively.
The fall of Arjoon’s wicket brought Chanderpaul and the left-handed batsman was there at the end with an exciting knock that was decorated with nine sixes, while he received support from Abbass Farouk, Kamal Seebarran, Steven Narine and former national wicketkeeper/batsman Sheik Mohammed.
This is the second win in a row for Tiger Sports XI after a comprehensive trouncing of Park Rangers last Tuesday, bowling them out for 152 and hitting the required runs in 14 overs with a swashbuckling innings of 54 from Mohammed.
Tiger Sports XI, with predominantly players who are over 35 years of age, are set to take on a series of local teams in the 20-20 format of the game and have been boosted with the return of their star player Chanderpaul.
