A good first step to power-sharing

THE report that a newly formed Linden civil society group will be working towards a PPP/C Region 10 victory, may point the way to the first step to a better form of power sharing. It is clear that the best first step to so-called power-sharing is trust and active participation at all levels and not just party leadership.  Power-sharing is not the splitting up of ministerial jobs, it is the sharing of responsibilities and accountability at all levels of government, including the people. It may serve Guyana best if only individuals and not parties contest RDC and NDC elections, allowing local residents to contest and elect those known to them best. Whether joining the Civic component of the PPP or a civic group working with them may lead to the same thing: a voice inside government helping to make decisions and not outside opposing them. The old saying may be valid here- If you cannot beat them, join them. Hopefully, this may lead to a greater say and better governance. Better to make government more multiracial from within than complaining about it from without. What say you, my fellow Guyanese?
