ANWAR Mohamed, convicted of unlawfully assaulting his wife, Lynette Balkarran, was fined $10,000 on Tuesday. Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, before whom he pleaded guilty to the offence, at Vreed-en-Hoop Court, West Coast Demerara, also put him on a one year bond to keep the peace, with the alternative of six weeks imprisonment.
Mohamed admitted committing the offence on June 5 at Naamryck, East Bank Essequibo, where he dealt the virtual complainant several slaps but said he was sorry.
Balkarran, his wife of 16 years, said it is the first time she was ever assaulted by her common law husband, with whom she has six children and asked the court to be merciful to him.
