PLEASE allow me to express my deep disappointment at the selection of the Demerara Under-15 Squad. I have been following the performances of some of the most promising players in the various clubs in Georgetown and when I saw the selection list I could not believe it.
I would like to know the basis on which some of these players were selected. There is a particular name on the squad who has been playing Under-15 cricket for several years now. I wonder if this child has been playing Under 15 since he was 10.
If we are to promote sports and encourage our youth to advance in sports why were some of the most promising players excluded from the squad?
What has happened to players like Daniel Manohar who performed well in the Brain Street cricket tournament? I happen to know this youngster personally and some of his fellow club members and I know that Daniel is among the top 10 players in the Under-15 category.
I think this lapse on the part of the selectors of the Demerara Under-15 is enough to break the spirit of this young man because he has shown great determination and commitment to the game since at the school level where he started before playing for the DCC.
Did the selectors not consider performance, consistency in practice and play in their selection process? It would erase much negative thoughts in my mind about the reasons for their choice of players at this level, if the panel would explain the non-selection of Manohar and the others who deserved to be in the Demerara Under-15 squad.
Why some promising players left out of squad?
