– Police Commander
COMMANDER of Police ‘D’ Division, Assistant Commissioner Balram Persaud disclosed, yesterday, that three suspects have been arrested for the recent multi-million dollars Met-en-Meerzorg, West Coast Demerara robbery.
He said several others were questioned and a few more will be held for questioning.
Meanwhile, several persons of interest have been questioned and released.
Police investigators revealed that, from all indications, the crime appears to have been well-planned involving persons who frequented the home of the victims, as the robbers knew the location of a drawer in the house where money was kept.
The attack on businesswoman Indranie Bisram, 40, occurred at about 19:45hrs on Saturday, May 28, at East Met-en-Meerzorg.
When the five men, all armed with firearms, pounced on Bisram, her husband, Deonauth Judistry, 50, her 10-year-old daughter as well as her nephew, Yudesh Pooran, 18, were in their grocery.
At gunpoint, the bandits ransacked the premises and escaped, with G$2.7M, US$22,000 and jewellery of unmentioned value, by boat from the De Willem koker, also on West Coast Demerara.
