– Minister Nadir tells Region Two residents
Minister of Labour Manzoor Nadir on Wednesday evening joined the regional administration and residents of Region Two to observe Guyana’s 45th Independence Anniversary at a flag-raising ceremony at the Anna Regina Fire Station. Minister Nadir reminisced on the struggles Guyana had overcome during the past 45 years, and highlighted the strides made by the administration which has made Guyana a force to be reckoned with by becoming one of the fastest growing countries in the region and the world at large, amidst the global financial challenges.
It is because of these developments that Guyana has identified itself on the world map, he said.
Minister Nadir alluded to the progress made by the administration, such as the One Laptop Per Family Project which will bring Guyana on par with the technological era, the fibre optic cable and hydroelectricity, among others.
“In the last five years Guyana, has seen positive economic growth. We are seeing El Dorado at the end of the tunnel and it has come at great sacrifice, not only politically, but economically and socially. The struggle of the PPP/C government from 1992 to now has been one which epitomises what an independent nation needs to do in order to build that prosperous society that our citizens have yearned for.”
As Guyana looks to the future, Minister Nadir said the administration will continue to work hard to ensure that all Guyanese benefit equally in the distribution of the nation’s economic wealth.“Guyanese people look forward with much eagerness to the transformative initiative that will further enhance our development and the lives of our people; our people look forward to being supplied with electricity, from hydro, one of the dreams of our El Dorado, and in a few short years’ time, electricity powering Guyanese society from the hydro project is going to be another reality of this PPP/C administration.”
He noted that Guyanese will look forward to even more integration into the global village with the advent of connectivity which the administration will be bringing to them.
Region Two Vice Chairman,Vishnu Samaroo, in his address, urged that Guyanese continue to work together so as to foster greater achievements to better the lives and living standards of all Guyanese.
“Our foreparents have laid the foundation for us; it is therefore our responsibility to continue to build this country, ” he said
The ceremony was attended by regional officials, residents, and students of the Anna Regina Multilateral School performing poems and national songs.
Guards of Honour of the disciplined services were also inspected by the minster and regional officials. (GINA)
