India capable but lacks courage

THE killing of Osama bin Laden in one of the townships of Pakistan by US marine forces has established, beyond any doubt, that ISI is aiding and abetting international terrorism. No doubt, US has hunted down and annihilated Osama-its main target- but more needs to be done as the entire terror network is still intact and likely to get bigger and bigger. So far the task of uprooting the entire terrorist network remains unfinished and it becomes imperative on all the countries of the world to tackle it, especially India. This will alone make the world a safer place to live in. It is a matter of concern that despite ISI being hand in glove with terrorists, the Pakistan government is not ready to accept realities. They do not want to believe that there are people within the establishment who overtly or covertly help terrorists to carry out Jihadi attacks in India. More importantly, it is just not possible for anyone to carry out attacks with precision without the army’s support.
Understandably, in these circumstances attacking Pakistan seems to be the only option for New Delhi as it has exhausted other soft options. What will happen when we attack them? The terrorists and the camps will vanish. It is true that Pakistan is a failed state and as such has nothing to lose but at least India can focus on other priorities.
The other option could be to let India help Pakistan getting into a civil strife or economic breakdown so they have enough problems to deal with and allow Indians to rest in peace.
As a matter of fact, India can no longer depend on The United States as they are fighting for their own interests and not India’s which is suffering than it. It is interesting that even after killing Osama the Americans have assured all kinds of aid to Pakistan, which of course, will be used against India as usual. Had Americans been serious enough they would have squeezed this resource which Pakis use with impunity.
The unexpected raid and subsequent killing of Osama may have surprised many people across the world but not Indians. Pakistan being safe haven to terrorists like Syed Sallahudin, Aliyas Kashmiri, Dawood Ibrahim; there were also indications of Osama’s presence on its soil. Apart from providing cover, the Pakistan leaders have been openly assuring support to so-called freedom fighters waging war against India.
India has given Pakistan enough proof but they have neither acted nor changed their position. It seems they will not act unless we do. It is unfortunate that our agencies know the locations of terrorist hideouts and training camps but don’t act as India believes in non-violence and the sovereignty of its neighbours. What could be more tragic that India failed to storm training camps across the border when its Parliament and five-star hotels were targeted. What can we expect now? Nothing, except praying America to bell the cat on our behalf.
There is no denying that India has the capability to carry out US- like action but its leaders lack guts to approve it. Besides leaders the political parties are also to be blamed as they never encourage government to take such action. Amazingly, the US action has been wholeheartedly welcomed by all Americans irrespective of political affiliations. It would have never been possible in India. Indeed, our leaders work for their own interests rather than the interest of the country.
Immediately after the killing of Osama bin Laden some military chiefs in India expressed confidence that they too were capable of carrying out a similar operation. But after a terse response from Pakistan ISI chief, the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had to clarify in Afghanistan that India was “not the US”, and therefore that it was not possible for Delhi to replicate the feat of Washington.
There is no doubt that India has to fight its own battle without depending on fair weather friends like the US which always adopts double standards in its dealings with India. US President Barack Obama has won the war on Osama and may win his next battle of ballots for him. On the contrary, India has to either win the hearts and minds of the people in Pakistan or destroy the terror network by initiating pro-active measures.
