Fifth RBC/George Cumberbatch memorial meeting on tomorrow

SOME of the country’s top cyclists will be in action tomorrow around the inner circuit of the National Park, when the Roraima Bikers Club (RBC)-organised fifth annual George Cumberbatch Memorial cycle programme pedals off from 09:00hrs. This event is sponsored by Humphrey’s Bakery and Ray’s Auto Sales Limited and will showcase riders in all categories. What should be interesting to note is the performance of riders of the calibre of Warren ‘40’ McKay, Marlon Williams, Robin Persaud and defending champion Albert Philander, who won the Open category from Alonso Greaves and McKay.
With the inactiveness of last year’s Junior champion Christopher Holder, the vast-improving Paul De Nobrega who was second to Holder, can take this category, but will have to stave off Kurt La Rose and Berbice’s Neil Reece Jr.
The programme for the day’s event is as follows: BMX 9-11yrs (2 laps), BMX 12-14yrs (2 laps), BMX Open (4 laps), Junior/ Juvenile (10 laps), Categories 1and 2 and 3 and 4 (10 laps each), Veterans Over-40 and Veterans Over-50 (5 laps each), Mountain Bikes (10 laps) and Racing Bikes Open (30 laps.
Apart from the first six finishers of the feature race collecting cash prizes, the three top finishers in the other categories will also receive cash prizes.
A representative of the late George Cumberbatch will assist in the distribution of prizes at the end of the programme..
