Overwhelming response to Berbice OLPF road show

THE One Laptop Per Family (OLPF) road show yesterday continued in Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne), this time engaging a large number of residents from New Amsterdam and Cumberland, East Canje Berbice. This latest outreach was dubbed as overwhelmingly successful by the OPLF team, as residents came out in their numbers to seek assistance in the completion of the forms, which are readily available at the Neighbourhood Democratic Offices (NDCs) and Regional Democratic Offices (RDCs).
The principal applicant is reminded to take along his/her identification card as well as the birth certificate or birth certificate number of the person or persons listed as beneficiaries on the application.
This will enable any member of the OLPF team to render immediate assistance in filling out the application form.
Apart from assisting in the completion of the forms, the road show offers a high level of edutainment; whereby persons are entertained by popular comedian, Kirk Jardim also known as Chow Pow while at the same time, being educated on various aspects of the OLPF.
On May 21, the road show was taken to Port Mourant and Corriverton and on May 22, residents of West Coast Demerara had their chance as the OLPF team arrived at Parika.
The road show is part of the public interface strategy of the OLPF initiated by President Bharrat Jagdeo as one of the key components of the government’s Information and Communication Technology agenda.
It is targeting some 90,000 families over a two-year period; with free modern Laptop Computers and access to more than 200 internet-equipped OLPF accredited ICT Hubs (Centers of Learning) across the country (GINA)
