JERRY Joseph (no address given) was sentenced to two years imprisonment, on Monday, for stealing two hats and assaulting a purchaser at Port Mourant Market, Corentyne. Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, said, last April 23, the prisoner went into the market where Entura Sarwack had crotchet and knitted items on display for sale.
The pProsecutor said Joseph stole the things from the stall but was seen by Shereta Alphonso, who pursued him. However, Joseph took a wood handle bag and inflicted lashes on Alphonso before he was arrested by police on patrol.
Sentencing the convict, Magistrate Azore told him his career choice would keep within the walls of the prison and it was up to him to make a change.
He was given one year term on each of the two convictions to run consecutively.
