Fined for making false report against neighbour

RANWATTIE Rabindranauth known as Shirley went to Whim Police Station, Corentyne, where she reported that she was assaulted by her neighbour, Tamishwar (only name given). But, following investigations, it was discovered that she had given false information to the police.
That resulted in her being fined $25,000 by Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Monday.
Police Corporal Roberto Figuiera, prosecuting at Whim Court, said the defendant made the report on November 9, 2010, to Corporal Whyte, the Subordinate Officer at Whim Police Station, at 10:00 hrs, stating that she was lashed with a piece of wood several times about her body.
But residents of the community told detectives they were unaware of such an incident and, further, it was discovered that Tamishwar, a grass cutter, was weeding the compound of Whim Police Station at the time of the alleged assault.
