Enmore Factory accident victim funeral later this week

-Guysuco to continue investigation into the accident
GUYANA Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) employee Jainarine Singh, who died at Woodlands Hospital on Monday, following an accident at the Enmore Estate packaging plant two Sundays ago, will be buried later this week.
His widow, Shakuntala Singh, who made the announcement, expressed appreciation for the support she has received, to date, after a visit to their Mon Repos home, also on East Coast Demerara, by officials of GuySuCo and Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud.
Before his death, the 47-year-old Singh had been hospitalised, suffering first degree burns and injuries to his intestines.
Reports said he was injured in the section of the Enmore Factory that houses the dryers which were part of the recently commissioned packaging plant. Workers reported that a defective valve had allowed excessive flow of pressurized air into the pipe system and that the requisite testing of it was yet to be done. The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union also confirmed in a press statement that workers had complained about a defective valve.

But Shakuntala told the Guyana Chronicle she is still unsure of the circumstances surrounding her husband’s demise, as much about what occurred had not been communicated to her.
she said the hospital bills and the funeral expenses will be covered and GuySuCo has also promised to continue paying the weekly earnings of her husband who had worked there for some three decades.
Meanwhile, the tragic incident at the factory is expected to be the subject of a joint inquiry by GuySuCo and the GAWU.

GuySuCo said that, notwithstanding the death of Singh, it will continue with its investigation to ascertain the facts behind the incident.
This is according to a press release that Guysuco sent out following the passing of Singh at 17:30 hrs at Woodlands Hospital on Monday.
“The corporation expresses its sincere condolences to the relatives, friends and co workers of Mr. Singh and views his untimely demise as a loss for the Industry,” the release said.
“While the separate investigation as announced earlier by the Corporation will continue, officials have been providing moral support to Singh’s relatives in their moment of grief,” the release said.
GAWU in an earlier press release had called for an impartial enquiry into the severe injuries Singh suffered over a week ago.
The incident occurred in the section of the Enmore factory housing the dryers. According to GAWU, the dryers were recently commissioned as part of the US12.5 million Packaging Plant.
Guysuco announced that it would obtain 35 percent to 40 percent more per pound of value added sugar than what it receives for bulk sugar.
“GAWU whilst welcoming this necessary value added facility hopes that it would not be found that gross industrial negligence is the cause of Cde. Jainarine Singh current condition,” GAWU had said on Monday, before Singh died.
