Rain no play in first round U15 Inter-association cricket

HEAVY rains the previous day prevented any play in the first round of matches in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) organised and sponsored Demerara zone Under-15 Inter-association cricket competition yesterday. At the Wales Community Centre ground, West Demerara were scheduled to play East Coast Demerara, while at the Demerara Cricket Club ground, Georgetown and East Bank Demerara were set to do battle.
According to a source within the GCB, the governing body for cricket in the Land of Many Waters decided to organise and sponsor the tournament, with a view of having a Demerara team selected to play in the GCB’s  Castrol sponsored Inter-county Under-15 tournament.
“With the GCB looking to field a national team to compete in the Regional Under-15 tournament, they saw it fit to organize the Demerara competition with the consent of all parties involved with cricket in Demerara, with a view to running off the GCB Under-15 tournament.”
The source further stated that the national junior selection committee led by national female coach Michael Franco-Hyles was asked to select the Demerara team to compete in the GCB/Castrol Under-15 Inter-county tournament, from which the national team will be selected.
Weather permitting, the second round of action in the tournament will continue today with West Demerara hosting East Bank at Wales and Georgetown clashing with East Coast Demerara at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, with the action set to commence at 09:30hrs. (Calvin Roberts)
