CA justified in never making him captain over his ‘poor calls and choices’ – Warne

JAIPUR, (ANI): Former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne has admitted that Cricket Australia (CA) probably made the right decision by not giving him the captain’s role. Warne said that ‘some poor calls and poor choices’ had defined him as an unsuitable captain in the minds of cricket officials.
“If I didn’t get the opportunities then so be it. I think the suits and ties and all, they were probably fair because I have been through a few things,” Warne told CNN-IBN.
“I made poor calls and some poor choices. So, they were probably right in the way they were thinking, saying ‘It’s too much of a risk, anything could happen in that stage of my life’,” he added.
Despite nearly universal recognition of Warne’s talents, his reputation with fans and cricket authorities remained mixed, owing to a succession of intemperate actions in both his professional and his private life.
In 2000, he had been stripped of the Australian vice-captaincy after bombarding a British nurse with erotic text messages.
He was also involved in an altercation with some teenage boys who took a photo of him smoking.
