…after being violently cuffed and kicked by abusive uncle
A 16-year-old girl, pregnant with her first child, suffered a broken jaw and other bodily injuries inflicted upon her by an uncle last Friday outside Boxer’s Jewelry and Pawn Shop at the corner of Alexander and Longden streets, Georgetown. Jacquelin Fordyce told this newspaper yesterday that her daughter, Chrisanta Fordyce of Lot 171 Ogle Street, Triumph, East Coast Demerara, was in a conversation with a young man when she was approached by her uncle, Freeman Fordyce.
Without saying a word, Freeman swung the young woman, who is four months pregnant, in another direction and subsequently cuffed her violently to the left-side jaw.
The impact caused the pregnant teenager to fall to the ground in pain, holding her jaw, which started to bleed profusely.
The victim’s mother elucidated that she was inside the jewelry store, which she operated jointly with another sibling, when she heard someone shouting for her to go outside.
“When I ran outside, my daughter was lying on the ground, curled-up in pain and my brother, her uncle, had his foot raised in the air to kick her in the back,” the victim’s mother related.
“I rushed to him and told him that ‘enough is enough’ and I pushed him away in order to protect my daughter from receiving another kick,” she explained.
With the assistance of some on-lookers, the pregnant girl was taken to the Brickdam Police Station to make a report and was then taken to a hospital, where she received medical attention. She was subsequently sent away.Yesterday, when the Chronicle visited the expecting mother, she was unable to speak and only communicated by showing signs and by making sounds.
When asked to explain what happened, she pain-stakingly pointed to her swollen jaw and indicated that she received a cuff.
She also indicated that she was kicked twice to the side of her ribcage and agreed that her mother saved her from the third kick.
Chrisanta also revealed that her uncle has always been physically abusive towards her, the last time being sometime last year.
Chrisanta’s mother said they never reported any of the assault matters to the police but had warned him to desist from this criminal act on several occasions.
A close relative, who requested anonymity, said “I was present when the assault occurred and Freeman was not under the influence of alcohol. He was sober.”
It is understood that Freeman Fordyce, a football player, is still on the run and has since made no contact with police and/or family members up to late yesterday.
