Health, Sport, Education Ministries offer career guidance to Region Three youths

RECOGNISING that many youths are at the point where they must decide in which direction their futures lie, the Ministries of Culture, Youth and Sport, Health and Education in collaboration with the Region Three Administration held a career fair yesterday at the Uitvlugt/ Leonora Community Centre. The fair was attended by youths from within the Uitvlugt/Leonora school district and they were made aware of the job opportunities available at many government and non governmental agencies within Guyana. The Ministry of Health, Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, Guyana Power and Light and Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association were among the many agencies represented at the Career fair.
The youths were treated to booths filled with colourful visual displays, pamphlets and booklets establishing the particular agencies and the employment opportunities each had available.
Carl Brandon, Director of Youth and Sport, said the initiative evolved because the Ministry recognised that thousands of youths will be leaving school in July/August and many more will be graduating from the vocational centres.
The Ministry felt that instead of having them seek out the agencies and the job opportunities, the Ministry instead decided to create a setting where agencies can come together to showcase their operations and make them aware of the job training they had to offer and the criteria the youths had to satisfy in order to access these job opportunities.
Eager to provide the youths with information to develop themselves and their potential, Minister within the Ministry of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran, told them about the job opportunities available at the Ministry of Health.
He also encouraged the youths to make adequate use of the information they would have acquired at the fair.
Several of the students were appreciative of the initiative and expressed their gratitude for the exposure.
