HANDEL Lynch, 34, of Lot 234 Munipur Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged on two counts of obtaining money under false pretence. The defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges, one of which alleged that, on June 15, 2010, with intent to defraud, he obtained $1M from Deonarine Singh, by falsely pretending that he was in a position to deliver a ‘Toyota Raum’ vehicle, knowing it to be false.
the other charge said, on July 29, 2010, also with intent to defraud, he obtained $500,000 from Ajay Ram, by falsely pretending that he was in a position to deliver a ‘Toyota Carina’ motor car, knowing it to be false.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, made an unsuccessful objection to bail for Lynch, pointing out that the offences were committed since 2010 and the defendant was only recently arrested, through the diligent search of the virtual complainants.
Pre-trial freedom was, however, granted Lynch, on $600,000 surety, until May 27.
