Charlestown sewage system overflowing

THE sewage system under the road at the corner of Howes and Ketley Streets, Charlestown, has been overflowing for some time now. There has been a major blockage in the system and residents have been accused of dumping garbage therein. Public Relations Officer at the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) Timothy Austin told the Chronicle Tuesday that a crew from ‘Water Works’ was working to fix the problem. He said sand, plastic, condoms, sanitary boxes, etc, have been found in the system. He is urging citizens to desist from dumping garbage in this area so as to prevent further blockage. This Sonell Nelson photo shows water from the sewage spilling onto the roadways.
