KELVIN Niles (no address given) was sentenced to 14 days imprisonment yesterday, for threatening his girlfriend, Chelsea Barton. He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded guilty to the April 30 offence.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant and the prisoner had shared an intimate relationship but it ended recently.
The Prosecutor said Niles was compelling Barton to reconcile with him and, that day, he went to where the woman sells and threatened her that, if she did not make up with him, one day he would murder her, causing her to become fearful.
He told the Court that his paramour threw pepper in his face and issued the threat because he was embarrassed.
Niles maintained that he loves Barton and would never do anything to hurt her but she maintained that she is still in fear.
The magistrate advised her to file for a protection order against Niles.
