GCC are Noble House Seafoods second division champions

GEORGETOWN Cricket Club (GCC) adorned themselves in glory Sunday afternoon when they took home the Georgetown Cricket Association-organised Noble House Seafoods-sponsored second division trophy, as the final against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) petered out into a draw.
Playing at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, GDF resumed the final day on 98-7 in reply to GCC’s 184 and were bowled out for 108, as Trevor France snapped up the remaining three wicket to end with 5-20 for GCC, who in the hunt for quick runs having secured a first-innings lead of 76 runs, were bowled out for 195 in their second innings.
Winston Forrester struck three fours and two sixes in the top score of 55 while Gavin Singh offered support with 32 against the bowling of Jeremiah Harris who picked up 7-40 from 11.3 overs for GDF.
Asked to score 272 for a come-from-behind victory, GDF were 117-6 when play was called off, with Marcus Watkins leading the way with 33 against the bowling of Gavin Singh who took two wickets for GCC.
At the simple presentation ceremony that followed, France was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his impressive first innings figures while DCC’s Dennis Squires got the Most Valuable Player of the tournament for his 31 wickets and 209 runs.
Other awards went to Transport Sports Club’s Shawn Massiah for the best bowling performance 8-33, GDF’s Charwayne McPherson for the highest individual score (182), Squires most wickets (32) and Anthony Ifill most runs (420).
Harris, Forrester and Alex Ramalho received awards for best bowling figures, highest individual score and most catches in the final respectively, while president of the GCA, Roger Harper, congratulated GCC and thanked the sponsors for their contribution in making the tournament a success.
