It is with a profound sense of sadness that I learnt of the passing of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. I join with the multitudes who are today mourning the death of this truly amazing sage, spiritualist and humanitarian. I extend sympathies to his many loyal devotees in Guyana and around the world, and hope that the grief that they feel at this irreparable loss will be tempered by the recognition that in his lifetime he touched millions and brought relief to countless through his spiritual and charitable work.
His work among the poor, the physically challenged and refugees is testimony to someone who did not divorce his spirituality from the pursuit of good deeds. He will always be revered and remembered as a truly great soul, and I have no doubt that his example and teachings will inspire generations to come.
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting with the Sai earlier this year. For me it was a deeply moving and humbling experience.
