GT&T reducing cost of 256k DSL service

THE charge for using Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) DSL service will be reduced from $9,998 to $7,000 per month, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Yog Mahadeo announced last week. He explained that the utility provides two types of DSL services, E-magine and Non-E-magine and it is in the process of rolling out a keeper’s bandwidth in the latter.

Mahadeo said the reduction is being offered as a good gesture to customers who had asked for it and, when all the Non E-magine service areas would have obtained the E-magine service, customers will be able to choose between DSL and E-magine DSL light.

A Public Utility Commission (PUC) release said GTT’s 256K DSL service will cost less from May 1, confirming the contents of a letter from the company dated Tuesday, April 19.

The release said the decision to reduce the tariff resulted from representation made by members of the public and consumers to benefit are those who are utilising the 256K DSL in areas that have not yet been upgraded to the E-magine level.

“The PUC wishes to remind consumers that it is available to assist in resolving any dispute they may have with any of the utility services providers as it continue to regulate utilities for efficiency and protection of consumers’ interest,” the release said.

It added that the regulatory agency can be contacted on telephone number 226-7042, on Fax 227-3534, its website www.puc.org.gy or at its office at Lot 298 Church Street, Georgetown.
