Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Under-18 tourney …

Defending champions sent packing
CHRISTIANBURG/Wismar Secondary and Harmony Secondary are through to the final of the third annual Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Under-18 Schools football championship, following respective wins in their semi-finals which were played at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground last Thursday.
In the first semi-final, Christianburg Wismar Secondary (Multi) edged defending champions Wisburg Secondary 1-0 thanks to Derwin Luke’s 60th minute strike which followed their 3-1 first-leg victory secured in the semi-final playoff.
It must be noted that the Christianburg/Wismar Secondary were runners-up in the first championship in 2009 and again lost out when they were defeated by Wisburg last year.
They now have a third chance to take the championship honours when they face Harmony Secondary in the final.
Harmony emerged winners of their semi-final replay against Linden Foundation Secondary, with a 7-3 aggregate score line at the end of their two matches, with the second ending in a 2-2 score-line, following their lopsided 5-1 win in the first match.
The see-saw battle was reflected in Nathaniel Duke’s opening goal in the 43rd minute for Linden Foundation Secondary and Joshawn Freeman’s reply for Harmony Secondary when he scored in the 55th minute.
Linden Foundation Secondary regained the lead five minutes later through Andrew Breedy but the scores were knotted for the last time through a goal by Harmony’s Colwin David in the 63rd minute of the game which eventually petered out to a 2-2 stalemate.
The final will now be played next Tuesday at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
