We may soon have a non-playing captain of the West Indies team

I WOULD appreciate if you  publish my letter in response to the CEO of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Dr. Ernest Hilaire.

I have read the CEO’s response to Guyana’s Minister of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony and I am very disappointed with Hilaire’s response. The CEO wants the Caribbean public to believe that this is a new policy. All his fancy language will not convince us cricket fans.

History will prove that the Board has always treated its senior players with disrespect and dump them whenever and as they see fit. The young players in the team see this and realise that the cycle will continue with them, so when the players look out for themselves financially, we should not blame them. Richards, Haynes, Richardson, Hooper Lara are a few examples.

How does the CEO of the WICB expect us to accept his explanation, when the coach openly attacks the senior players and then from the next team they are dumped?

How is it that the captain was not omitted for his non-performance? We may soon have a non-playing captain. Is the plan to eliminate all the possible contenders for the captaincy, so that Sammy becomes the most senior player and only person to captain the team? Mr. CEO, you have a very good plan to destroy the West Indies team for good.

The letter from the minister was sent to Mr. Butts as chairman of selectors. Why did he not provide the explanations? Is the CEO a member of the selection team or is it he dictates to the committee, hence the explanation?

It is time the Caribbean public let the Board know they are not going to take this kind of treatment anymore and we should all stay away from the games across the region.
