ACCORDING to a ‘demwaves’ report, ACDA(African Cultural Development Association) is cautiously optimistic that a coalition could win Guyana’s next election. However, if they win, they will share the government with the PPP. If they lose, they are going to fight and bring Guyana to a halt until they have a national government with representatives of African people in parliament.
Mr. Ogunseye has given notice of possible civil unrest if not war, and is looking to the security forces to stand with him.
Two things are unclear – What policies would be changed to prevent the reported massive African political and economic marginalisation, discrimination and exploitation by the PPP/C administration?
Secondly – what assurances are there that (a) there will be power sharing if the opposition wins, (b) that there will be a joint agreement on policies best for all, not simply a sharing of spoils between leaders and senior supporters?
Without common agreement on the best policies and representatives, we will most likely have a divided and contentious government, leading to less progress.
