TROY Hanes (no address given) was yesterday remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a charge of attempting to commit a felony, that is to say ‘robbery under arms’. Particulars of the offence stated that, on April 7, being armed with a knife, he attempted to rob Audrey Joseph.
He pleaded not guilty and was represented by Attorney-at-law Mr. Patrice Henry who made a bail application.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said on the day in question the defendant approached the virtual complainant and pulled out a knife in an attempt to rob her when the virtual complainant’s husband, who is a licensed firearm holder, pulled out his gun.
She said, upon seeing the firearm, the defendant ran off and was later arrested and charged.
While the case was being heard, someone in the courtroom identified the defendant as the perpetrator of another robbery and informed the police.
However, the magistrate said police will have to investigate the matter.
Hanes was remanded to prison and will return to court on April 18. (Nathalene DeFreitas)
