YOU will note that almost all the letters that come from Region One tend to criticise whatever happens here. This time around, I write not to criticise but to extend a sincere thank you to the government and particularly, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Regional Health Officer and the entire staff upon the successful surgeries that were conducted from Saturday 26th to Sunday 27th March. I believe this joy is shared by many. On Sunday morning (the day after the operations), I eavesdropped a conversation where an old woman was equally grateful because they were spared of money and travel to town for one of her family members who was supposed to undergo an operation in Georgetown.
Apart from surgical operations, I am equally pleased with other developments such as the nurses’ hostel which is nearing completion, the birds which were competing with patients for space are no more, staff cooperation is at its best, and generally, nurses have become more hospitable to the patients unlike before.
I think what the government is doing must be applauded. The best way to secure a proactive and productive population is by making it healthy. No surprise, a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.
My suggestion, though, is that the government should keep in touch with the current administration to ensure that the progressbeing realised are kept constant. The government should also work hard to see that the hospital becomes fully resourced both in material and human resources.
Mabarumans should also continue to be supportive to the hospital administration so that more results are achieved.
Significant improvement in Region One health care
