RELATIVES of their father are keeping the three children, ages six, five and three years, orphaned by the murder/suicide of their parents, Parmanand Seepersaud called Ramu and Gaitree Narine known as Lolita. The eldest child, Tarmattie, saw her father kill her mother at their Alliance Road, Timehri, East Bank Demerara home on Saturday, before he took his own life.
Remona Sarjoo, 19, niece of the killer, Parmanand Seepersaud called Ramoo, 42, told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday that the children are not fully aware of what transpired but know both their parents are dead.
She said they took custody of the trio and have been caring for them, with the intention of keeping them together as they would need nurturing, having lost their parents so tragically.
Sarjoo said they live one lot away from where the dead man resided and, as the children are familiar and comfortable with them, they will be made happy.
She disclosed that, initially, Narine’s relatives had agreed to have both funerals on the same day but, subsequently, decided to have hers separately, although the timings were not yet known.
Sarjoo recalled that her uncle had begged his wife to return after she left their home but the latter refused to reconcile following her walkout on him about two months ago.
At the time of the tragedy, Narine, 26, had been living with a man for whose mother she worked in the village.
Seepersaud, 42, succumbed to poisoning on Sunday, at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) while under police guard after he took the fatal dose, following his hacking Narine to death with a cutlass in the yard where he resided.
She had gone there to take the children and collect money for their support.
Police said Seepersaud attacked and chopped Narine about the body and then drank the poisonous substance before plunging into a nearby creek. He was taken out of the water in an unconscious state and, together with her, conveyed to Diamond Diagnostic Centre, also on East Bank Demerara where she was pronounced dead on arrival and he was referred to the GPH.
