THE Ministry of Labour is silently following reports in the media about the recent sacking of a number of employees by management of Princess Hotel Guyana.
According to reports reaching the Guyana Chronicle yesterday, the employees, described as mostly mature people, were dismissed after they trained younger staff brought in by the hotel.
The distraught employees claim that they were given no prior notice and were sent off with only one month’s pay and the excuse that the hotel could not afford to keep them.
Further reports are that the employees were employed by the previous management of the hotel under the name “Buddy’s”, before it was bought over by its current owners and renamed “Princess”.
Chief Labour Officer of the Ministry of Labour, Yoganand Persaud, confirmed that there was an unconfirmed number of complaints on this matter that reached the Ministry on Monday.
He said that contact was made with the management of Princess Hotel, and they are to respond shortly.
Persaud noted that there will be a series of meetings between the parties to resolve the matter. He encouraged those persons involved who did not come to the ministry to do so.
Repeated attempts to contact General Manager of Princess Hotel, Muharrem Kulekci, were unsuccessful.
