Bring the minibus service under PUC control

I SPENT all of my youthful adulthood in three political parties in the struggle to bring democracy and to put this government in office to work in the interest of the people and protect the rights of the people, even in the harshest of times.

I never thought of living in another land. As such, I cannot understand Dr Roger Luncheon saying government has no control over bus fares.

The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) should control the rates of the utilities; and transportation is a public utility.

If, however, transportation does not fall within the mandate of the PUC then it is the duty of the government, that we voted to power, to set up some kind of agency to control fares and don’t leave the working class to the mercy of  those who want more than their fair share: a commuter travelling within four kilometres should pay no more than $60 dollars, further than four kilometres a 20 per cent increase should be acceptable.
Government must control bus fares. In fact, I feel the prices of certain consumer goods should be controlled as well.
